Playbox Theatre opens its Autumn season with a thrilling new play, Dancing Bear and the Hunter in the Stars. A new commission by writer and film maker, Mairin O Hagan, this exciting piece follows the adventures of Stella Somersby as she travels back two thousand years to Ancient Greece where she encounters the Goddess Artemis, the God Apollo, Orion, Sirius and the deadly Scorpio.

Playbox’s Young Production Company will finally get to perform this multi-disciplinary adventure after a delay of 18 months. A wonderful show for all the family.

“SEVENS”, A NEW TRIPLE BILL BY SRISHTI STARTS ITS NATIONWIDE TOUR THIS OCTOBER 2021.

Through the medium of Bharatanatyam and Kathak, and originally composed live music, ‘SEVENS’ will explore the sacred, and sometimes sinful, significance of the number seven. From playful and energetic, to soulful and contemplative, the show will take audiences on an emotion-filled and entertaining journey. An ensemble cast of renowned UK-based Indian classical dancers and musicians will be sharing the stage in this unique show conceptualised and choreographed by award-winning Bharatanatyam dancer and choreographer Nina Rajarani MBE, with an original music score by composers Y Yadavan and Shammi Pithia.

Described recently as a story about helpless humans, lost in the cosmos.

 

Antigone defies the law that her brother ,as a traitor, should have no burial rites and by so doing unleashes on the state a cycle of destruction. Enemy of the state and family torn apart is the ferocious world of this young girl.

 

Playbox explore Sophocles powerful Greek Tragedy as a play for our times with an ensemble cast of young performers in a thrilling production bringing total theatre back to The Dream Factory . The journey of self destruction executes ultimate control.

 

Following Medea in 2019 the company re-explore The Greeks for audiences today.
