Gala performance launches new season with first steps of Dream Factory redesign

The Playbox Theatre company heading off to perform in Santa Monica this autumn, headlined a Gala evening at The Dream Factory on Saturday 6th October.

The Chair of Warwick District Council, Councillor Stephen Cross formally opened Dream Drive, the new car park access road to an expanded car park at the theatre. The road was created thanks to a £100,000 loan from Warwick District Council.

On stage at the start of the evening Directors spoke of their vision for the future and Founder Mary King announced that the company received £40,000 from the Warwick District Council Rucis fund towards the technical infrastructure replacements in the main space.

Guests from across the region cheered at the 26-strong Monkey troupe danced, tumbled and re-imagined the ancient Chinese tale of The Monkey King in dazzling Peking Opera inspired costumes and makeup. The show is Playbox’s flagship tour show having been seen in the UK, Europe, San Francisco and Santa Monica.

Playbox Theatre Futures campaign needs to raise £160,000 to redevelop The Dream Factory for the current and next generations. It is hoped to complete the project by Summer 2019 without any closures at all.

Playbox Theatre’s USA Tour Monkey, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Mustardseed’s Magical Mayhem takes flight on 25th October.
